Troubleshooting Error Messages

NOTE: Always check the HotSync log if you see the following dialog box after the HotSync process:

wpe4.jpg (8440 bytes)

"Missing User Profile"
The user name on your Palm device does not match the user name in the Users table in Pendragon Forms Manager.  The case, spelling and spacing must be identical.  To obtain the Palm user name, tap on the HotSync icon on your handheld, and look at the top right corner of the screen.

"Inactive User"
The user has been added to the Pendragon Forms Manager, but is not marked as active on the desktop.  Simply open the Form manager and check the active box for the user.

"Unable to sync via ADO: select count(username) from user_list where active <> 0"
If you have just upgraded to Pendragon Forms 3.1 and imported your form designs and data, your Pendragon Forms Manager database may become exclusively locked.   In this case, simply close (and optionally re-open) the Forms Manager before trying your HotSync again.

"Unable to sync via DAO: ODBC connection to C:\Progra~1\Forms3\Forms3.mdb failed."
You may have entered a server, username or password in the Login box in Pendragon Forms on the handheld. This Login feature is only for ODBC or password protected databases. Clear the server, username and password fields on the handheld, and this should resolve the problem.

Error messages when freezing a form that contains lookup lists.
This error dialog may pop up while freezing a form if you are using a non-US version of Microsoft Access. The solution to the problem when freezing a form with lookup lists is to change a line of code.

  1. With Access, go to the list of Modules and open the Signature Functions module.

  2. Press control-F to find the line which reads
        cbo.ColumnWidths = "2 in;2 in"

  3. Comment out this line by inserting an apostrophe before the first character, i.e.,
       'cbo.ColumnWidths = "2 cm;2 cm"

We are working on a database with this change already included.

"The Jet VBA file (VBAJET.dll for 16-bit versions, or VBAJET32.dll for 32-bit versions) failed to initialize... "
You need to update the Microsoft JET (Access 97) database engine. Download Pendragon Forms 3.0 DAO Fix (4.6MB), which also includes the latest Pendragon Forms 3.0 files.  Do not install this file if you are using Access 2000.

McAffee antivirus products may cause installation or execution of the software to lock up.
See this technical note if your installation locks up or if your PC appears to freeze when you try to open the Forms Manager.

"The expression On Click you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: Automation error"
This error can occur if you have installed on a system that does not have Access 97 installed. Here's the easy solution.
