Pendragon Forms 4.0 Service Pack 4

UPDATED 8/18/2004 - This is a cumulative Service Pack that includes changes in Service Packs 1-3 and fixes several issues in Service Pack 4 (released 8/10/2004).

8/18/2004 - Users who downloaded Pendragon Forms after this date do not need to install this update.

Download and run this file to get the Service Pack 4 update:

pf4sp4.exe

During installation, you will be prompted to select the handheld device(s) on which you want to install the new Forms4.prc.  This is version 4.0.56 of the Forms4.PRC.

Note for SyncServer users with Pendragon Forms 4.0

SyncServer 4.0 works with Pendragon Forms Service Pack 4.

Install Service Pack 4 on the server where

Pendragon Forms is already installed.

Install the new Forms4.prc on each handheld device.

Enhancements in Service Pack 4 include the following:

  • Service Pack 4 Reference Guide Supplement (Updated 8/18/2004)

  • Includes SonyCapLib2.prc file required when using the Camera Custom Control with Sony Clie handhelds. (Updated 8/18/2004)

  • Fixed wildcard characters in LOOKUPNAME and LOOKUPLOCALE statements. (Updated 8/18/2004)

  • Added support for SONY Clie cameras on the NX, TH, UX series. NZ-90 is not supported.

  • The Zire JPEG camera capture custom control has been updated to support the Zire 72. It also uses a larger preview area because this provides much better image quality for the captured image. On the Zire 72, the control can capture images at 1280x960.

  • Added buttons to the MSGBOX scripting dialog

For example, using the prefix "?YNC?" in your MSGBOX text, e.g.,

MSGBOX "?YNC?Do you want to open an new case?"

will display Yes, No and Cancel buttons. After the dialog has been answered, the result variable will contain "Y", "N" or "C".

Other button prefixes include:

?OC? OK/Cancel

?YN? Yes/No

  • The menu option Toggle Field Num is now disabled if you have selected to Disable Action Menus.

  • SocketScan features are disabled if Palm OS version is less than 4.0 or if VFSLib cannot be found.

  • When you enter record deletion mode by calling the DELETEMODE statement, filters are no longer available.

  • Added a GOTOSUBFORM formname ONEWAY statement. This statement behaves just like the GOTOSUBFORM REVIEW statement, but it does not tell the target form to return to the caller. This enables a subform to jump directly back to a grandparent form.

  • Fixed: DELETEMODE correctly handles filters using the SELECT scripting statements.

  • Added an option for VFS Backup Restore that enables recovery of manually deleted records from the backup.

  • Fixed: Lookup list fields now correctly handle the read-only attribute.

  • Fixed: Layout View performs a redraw as required after a SELECT event triggers for a lookup to another form.

  • Fixed: In some cases, Forms would incorrectly prompt to undo changes to a new record instead of delete the record.

  • Added: LOOKUPNAME variable.

Set this variable using the SETLOOKUPNAME statement:

SETLOOKUPNAME "Active"

It can be accessed using the LOOKUPNAME variable, e.g.,

RESULT = RESULT & LOOKUPNAME

Also, the tilde character (~) is replaced with the value of LOOKUPNAME when displaying a lookup list, e.g., a lookup list name "Companies~" becomes "CompaniesActive" if LOOKUPNAME equals "Active".

  • Added: LOOKUPLOCALE variable.

Set this variable using the SETLOOKUPLOCALE statement:

SETLOOKUPLOCALE "US"

It can be accessed using the LOOKUPLOCALE variable, e.g.,

RESULT = RESULT & LOOKUPLOCALE

Also, the caret character (^) is replaced with the value of LOOKUPLOCALE when displaying a lookup list, e.g., a lookup list name "Companies^" becomes "CompaniesUS" if LOOKUPLOCALE equals "US".

  • The MDATA ActiveLaunch now overrides the Review screen and takes the user to the MDATA form. Previously, the ActiveLaunch would simply re-launch Pendragon Forms in Review mode.

  • Fixed: Socket Scan and Grabba scanner support now works on the Review screen

  • Added a NULLFROM fieldnumber1 TO fieldnumber2 statement. For example, to set field 4 through 17 to NULL, use the following statement:

NULLFROM 4 TO 17

The words NEXTFIELD and LASTFIELD can be used instead

of field numbers, e.g., NULLFROM [AccountNumber] TO LASTFIELD.

This update also includes Service Pack 3 changes (3/23/2004):

  • Support for the Socket SDIO In-Hand Scan Card bar code scanner

  • JPEG support for the Palm Zire 71 camera control

  • Support for the MercuryMD MData® ActiveLaunch feature

  • Support for Grabba bar code scanners

  • A new scripting statement that draws images from files on a VFS volume

  • A new scripting function for detecting Palm OS 5 encryption

  • A new scripting feature that enables you to perform lookups without modifying a record (the CHECKFLAG and CLEARFLAG statements)

  • Compatibility with AcidImage Pro from Red Mercury

  • Compatibility for Palm OS 5.2 Themes

  • Compatibility with the Treo 600 keypad

  • Support for the Garmin iQue™ 3600 PDA with integrated GPS receiver

This update also includes Service Pack 2 changes (10/22/2003):

  • Compatibility: Tungsten T3 device does not save screen when calling SelectDate or SelectOneTime. PRC updated to redraw field captions after the user selects a date.

  • Pendragon Forms can now display JPEG images internally using the jpeglib shared library. Install the JEPGLib.PRC file along with the new FORMS4.PRC file. The JPEGLib.PRC file can be found in the file JpegLibPalm030912.zip.  This JPEG library is an open source library created by Yves Piquet.

  • Text fields automatically save their contents if the user first made a selection on a Slider field that triggered an exit or a move to another screen.

  • Button fields that are NULL will display the default button caption.

  • Subform fields are active even on forms that disallow updates to modified forms.

  • In Record View, tapping the left column takes you to Field View if it would otherwise take you to Record View (i.e., if you have set default view for new and existing records to Record View).

  • The "No updates" option is now correctly applied after returning from subform records.

  • Added international support for the Pendragon Forms numeric keypad.

This update also includes Service Pack 1 changes (9/8/2003):

  • The GPS Control is updated to work with a wider range of devices including the Socket Bluetooth GPS.

  • The Form Designer is now faster, and generates correctly proportioned form designs when the Palm fonts are not installed on your PC.

  • Custom controls are now available even if the user is not logged in to the PC with write privilege to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry.

  • Image fields can be sized vertically even when the Single Line checkbox is marked. This allows an inline image to be displayed with text or a static image displayed to its left.

  • The new Palm OS runtime (FORMS4.PRC) includes the following fixes:

  • GOTSUBFORM works correctly in Layout View when triggered from a button CLICK event.

  • ENTERSCREEN is called when triggered by a Jump to Section field.
