Forms
Development Time: |
Pendragon allows rapid application development
within Microsoft Access because the Pendragon Forms data is
automatically transmitted to the host application. The complete
application was developed within a week. |
|
Installation: |
Using the Symbol Technologies
SPT-1500 with Pendragon Forms3 to monitor stock levels on the manufacturing floor. The
received goods from incoming trucks are scanned with the bar code reader and the inventory
is looked up in another form, which contains the inventory item data, current quantity on
hand and existing warehouse storage location. The quantity of the item received into stock
is entered along with the PO#. As materials are consumed through manufacturing the bar
code labels unpeeled from the empty containers and affixed to the Work Order document for
each job. The inventory is relieved by scanning the bar code label of each item attached
to the Work Order and the Work Order #. A script in the quantity field assigns a minus
sign when there is a value in the Work Order field. This allows a single form to be used
for inventory transactions and single form to be used for look up reference that is
updated by query when Pendragon synchronizes. A very simple easy to implement solution to
I/C and job costing. |
|
Before
Pendragon Forms: |
Inventory control was only an
estimated task that often caused out of stock or over stocked conditions causing late
production or wasted floor space. There was no easy way to capture quantity used for each
job and there was no easy way to access quantity on hand information on the manufacturing
floor. |
|
Benefits: |
The Symbol Palm Top is very
portable which makes data capture on the shop floor very convenient and accurate.
Inventory items are scanned in or out wherever and whenever a transaction occurs in
real-time without paper. Portability is a very important enabling benefit. |
|
Estimated ROI: |
A 25% reduction in inventory
levels was realized because the actual quantity on hand is known without guesswork. Enough
additional floor space was recovered to add another printing press. Job costing was made
possible that improved margin through pricing adjustments about 3% which translates to 25%
improvement in profitability. Increased production capability was realized with more
efective utilization of floor space. |
